9 ways to help your child get strong enough for every experience

Children are naturally curious. As a parent, you can help them grow up to be stronger physically, mentally and emotionally, so that they’ll be better equipped to discover and experience the world around them.

1. Playtime is exercise time

Playtime is essential to a growing child. That’s because every time they participate in physical activities, they’re using and building their muscles. So encourage your child to head outside for some fresh air, and have them engage in fun activities like rope skipping and cycling, etc.

2. Reduce screen time and add more playtime

Instead of rewarding your child with time on the tablet, computer or other hand-held devices, why not reward them with more active playtime? That way, you’ll be able to reduce the time they are sedentary, and encourage them to be more mobile by participating in other forms of physical activities.

Make family time fun by organising activities everyone can participate together. Your child may get upset from time to time. Try and understand what they are going through. It is also by experiencing empathy that they are able to develop empathy.

6. Mistakes are okay; really!

Your child is growing and they are bound to make mistakes. Let them know that mistakes are not only accepted, but also expected. Reassure them that they will still be loved and accepted, and teach them that mistakes are actually opportunities for learning. 7. Teach your child to show gratitude

It is easy to give in to your child’s demands, but it may be a good idea to show them how to be grateful for what they already have, instead of always wanting more. Show them how there is a silver lining in every situation. Even from young, you’ll notice that your child appears to be motivated to want to help others. Take the chance to involve them in charity work such as food drives or donation walks, as it will help to build up their sense of responsibility, compassion and social conscience.

It is normal for your child to be fearful of certain things when they are growing up. This is a good time to help them face up to their fears, because it will help them grow up to be stronger mentally. For example, if your child successfully gets over their fear of the dark, they will grow to be more confident and more willing to face up to challenges next time.
